Privacy Policy and Disclosure Statement
1.Your Privacy is Important
The Medical Oncology Group of Australia Incorporated (MOGA) has created this Privacy Policy and Disclosure Statement (together referred to as “this Privacy Policy”) in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy.
MOGA complies with the national privacy legislation, The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2001, effective 21 December 2001. MOGA reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If it is changed, the changes will be posted on the MOGA website so that you are always aware of the sort of information collected, how the information may be used, and under what circumstances it may be disclosed by MOGA. If at any time MOGA is required by law to release information about you or your organisation, MOGA must cooperate fully.
2. What sort of information does MOGA collect?
MOGA collects personal information about you (“the information”) when you register as an online user, apply to become a member, request certain services or products, or otherwise contact MOGA. Other personal information may be collected from RACP contact sheets, as well as telephone calls, faxes, e-mails and letters sent by others in contact with MOGA.
3. What happens if incomplete or incorrect information is provided?
If you do not provide the information required, you may not be able to become a member or may not be able to receive the information or service you requested by the method you have requested. The MOGA secretariat will endeavour to find any missing information to provide the required service, however this may not be possible in all cases. It is ultimately the responsibility of the members and users to keep their information up to date.
4. How is your information used by MOGA?
MOGA collects the information to provide you with a specific service. For example, we may use the information you provide us to:
• Process your membership application, change your membership status or update your details and profile information.
• Send you information on relevant MOGA services, training and events.
• Send your subscription renewal, voting papers or provide other membership privileges and rights, as under the Rules of the Association.
• Communicate with you on any issues relevant to your membership or transactions with MOGA.
Your information will only be used or disclosed by MOGA in accordance with the National Privacy Principles for purposes directly related to membership of MOGA, including providing Members and Trainees with information about MOGA meetings and activities.
5. Who does MOGA disclose personal information to?
MOGA will not sell, rent or trade to third parties any personal information obtained from you without your consent.
• MOGA will confirm an individual’s membership of MOGA to members of the public and other professional bodies.
• MOGA will pass on non-commercial emails to an individual member via the secretariat, but will not disclose any member’s email details without consent.
• All other enquiries regarding members’ contact details are directed to the public register “Find an Oncologist.”
MOGA will only disclose personal information to third parties, for purposes directly related to:
• Providing education, training and continuing medical education / professional development.
• Research where the Association determines that the research study is of importance to the practice of oncology and is in line with the goals and objectives of the Group.
• Membership of the Assoication.
In such circumstances, MOGA will use all reasonable efforts to ensure that the recipient handles such personal information in accordance with appropriate privacy principles and only for the purpose for which it was provided.
MOGA develops aggregate (i.e. not individual) reports, which incorporate some of the information. The reports are for use by MOGA to review statistics or analyse trends. However, these reports do not include any personally identifiable information.
